In the first ½ hour of this show you heard how our country, our system of government has been corrupted by the current political process and participants. In the second half of this show you heard the effects, the results of this corruption on one individual torture-taser-ed by police in Austin Texas . . .
Abe Lincoln offered 140 years ago or so, that “United we stand – Divided we fall”.
We are divided. We are falling – as a nation, as a society. Even the atavistic neo-cons, and self righteous neo-non-Christians are dividing. We’re even divided within our so-called Homeland Security – consider “Brownie’s” testimony yesterday.. But the fall that concerns me the most is the fall that matters most – and that is the fall of the oh so divided liberal, progressive, libertarian, socialist, worker –union, populist movements. It concerns me most because there is only one united group in the “United” States -- and that group, our opposition, corporate America, IS united and is led by greed, led by self interest and manifests itself within the corporate control of America.
I therefore applaud Kevin Zeese and encourage all to support his efforts to create a new political coalition of all alternative groups.
I also encourage the few alternative, more progressive, members of congress to form coalitions – the Black Caucus for instance, needs to be more than black. We now live in a nation that is, in fact, so divided that it is, in fact, breaking down . . .is, in fact, on the edge of complete breakdown – see Katrina & Rita.
We live in a nation that tells us to be self-sufficient and then condemns those who are lost and forgotten, who form gangs which are models of self sufficiency for the disenfranchised. We live in a nation where taser-torture is sanctioned and profitable, where our soldiers torture prisoners as a means of stress relief, where leaders turn their backs on those tortured here and abroad.
We live in a nation that is so divided that we now regularly dispose of people – dispose of our children, our prisoners, our elderly. We live in a nation that is only bound by one creed – and that creed is “to shop.”
We had better listen to Abe and we had better pay attention to Kevin. We had better set aside our differences and concentrate on our common needs.
In the cause of the common good, the common welfare, and as a citizen without narrow allegiance to any movement, I plead with each leader of each alternative movement that shares ideas of compassion and respect for all, to come together. I plead with each of these leaders, to put aside the ego that drives too many of these movements, to realize how much we need each other, need every voice for change. It is absolutely essential to unite . . . we are falling . . . .
