Kevin Zeese, a candidate for the U.S. Senate running independent of the two major parties, will be participating in a debate on health care this Thursday evening. Also participating will be candidates running for the Senate from the Democratic Party.
“The current approach we are taking with health care is not working for patients, doctors or the U.S. economy. The United States currently spends more per capita than any nation in the world and yet our health care system is ranked 37th in the world. We're paying for health care for all, yet more and more Americans are without health insurance,” said Zeese. “We need to confront the ingrained special interests – especially the for-profit health insurance industry and the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, one out of four health care dollars are spent on unnecessary overhead due to the complex health insurance industry. And, the most out of control cost of health care is pharmaceutical drugs, despite record profits in the pharmaceutical industry. We cannot fix health care without challenging these industries.”
Zeese, who believes all Americans should have health care, is also critical of tying health care to employment. “It is not good for individuals to have to stay with a job they don't like in order to keep health insurance. It is not good for employers to have health care as a rapidly rising and uncontrollable cost that can threaten their business. We need a paradigm shift in order to develop a new system that provides health care for all, incentives for prevention and health conscious lifestyles, incentives for quality care and that allow individuals to keep control of their health care.”
