Zeese Announces Independent Run for U.S. Senate Will Focus on Ending the Iraq War and Revitalizing American DemocracyUnity Campaign Plans to Bring Together Multiple Third Parties as Well as Independents, Democrats and Republicans Annapolis, MD: Independent candidate Kevin Zeese will file to run for the U.S. Senate with the Maryland Board of Elections on September 12 at 11 AM. He will be available outside the Board of Elections for interviews after filing (151 West Street, Annapolis, MD).
![]() “Katrina is the Iraq war coming home to roost. Instead of taking care of our crumbling isfrastructure, misplaced federal spending priorities have made our entire nation vulnerable. Maryland taxpayers have spent $3.8 billion on the Iraq War while taxes and cost of government increase and basic services go begging,” said Kevin Zeese. “Katrina and its aftermath dramatically demonstrate the need for change in direction.”
Mr. Zeese's campaign seeks to represent voters across the political spectrum whose concerns are left unaddressed by the two major parties. “A recent poll revealed that 17% of voters feel unrepresented by their elected officials,” said Mr. Zeese. “Even though a majority of Americans opposed the invasion of Iraq and want to see U.S. troops brought home, the Democratic and Republican leadership argue about 'staying the course' or 'increasing troop strength.' Americans deserve leadership that listens.”
In recent months, Zeese attracted Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, Greens and Populists to his Exploratory Committee. Zeese is actively seeking the nominations of the Green, Libertarian and Populist Parties (Populists gave Nader a ballot line in 2004).
An attorney, Zeese brings 25 years of national public policy experience to bear on the issues facing Marylanders. He currently serves as National Director of Democracy Rising, a national anti-war organization, President of Common Sense for Drug Policy and a founding member of both the election integrity group TrueVoteMD.org and the Treatment Not Incarceration Coalition.
