Joins Calls for Litigation to Stop Largest Bio-Weapons Facility in the World
Montgomery Country, MD: U.S. Senate Candidate Kevin B. Zeese will testify against the expansion of Ft. Detrick in Frederick, MD into the largest bio-weapons laboratory in the world.
Zeese opposes the facility because it will spur a bio-weapons arms race and creates enormous risks to the people of Frederick, “Putting a massive bio-weapons facility in a county with 200,000 people only 40 miles from Washington, DC puts Americans at risk. If Iran or Hezbollah did this the U.S. would claim they are using civilians as human shields. Ft. Detrick has a very poor record of security, indeed it is very likely the anthrax mailed to the Congress came from Detrick. Further, it has a record of polluting the air, water and land in Frederick County. The U.S. needs to lead by reducing bio-weapons not expanding them and spurring a bio-weapons arms race," said Zeese.
The environmental impact statement hearing will be held beginning at 7 PM at T.J. High School located at: 1501 N. Market St., Frederick, MD.
Zeese urged Maryland follow the lead of citizens in places such as Boston - where another Level 4 bioweapons facility was proposed by filing suit. In Boston the citizens won, forcing wider and more thorough environmental reviews.
Zeese plans to participate in the EIS hearing and then join Frederick Green Party members who will host a counter-meeting at the C. Burr Artz Public Library from 7:30 to 9pm. The purpose of the meeting is two-fold: first, to offer citizens the opportunity to voice their concerns about the impact of the facility or the EIS process; and second, to organize these citizens to bring a successful legal challenge the proposed bio-weapons lab.
Zeese joins Green Party Congressional candidate Bob Kozak in calling for litigation to stop the construction of this facility.
