Voters Want Change -- No More Unnecessary Foreign WarsMontgomery County , MD. U.S. Senate Candidate, Kevin B. Zeese, reacted to the Lieberman-Lamont race in Connecticut with a warning to his competition in the Democratic and Republican Parties: “Voters in Connecticut have sent a message – they want change in Washington, DC – incumbent and traditional politicians are going to face a challenge in Maryland responding to the new leadership for the 21st Century that my campaign is offering.”
The Iraq War is equally unpopular in Maryland . Indeed, recent Baltimore Sun polls show that a large majority of Marylanders oppose the war, even a majority of Republicans think the war was a mistake. Kevin Zeese is the clear anti-war candidate as he works daily as the executive director of the national anti-war group DemocracyRising.US to end the Iraq War. In addition he is a co-founder of VotersForPeace an organization working to educate voters on the importance of voting against pro-war candidates.
”I’m the only candidate that will be on the ballot in November who opposes another unnecessary war with Iran and has been outspoken in my opposition to U.S. support for Israel ’s attacks on Lebanon and Gaza . Leading Democrats and Republicans are afraid to stand up and criticize Israel ’s extreme military actions. They do not seem to realize that by failing to criticize Israel now they are boxing themselves in to being unable to criticize a wider regional war involving Syria and Iran .”
The anti-war issue has already had an impact on the election. All the likely candidates on the November ballot, except Michael Steele, oppose the Iraq War. Rep. Ben Cardin, who has has consistently voted to fund the Iraq War and has voted against all amendments calling for an exit strategy, now has a "Bring the Troops Home" petition on his website. Cardin has also been a strong supporter of Israel's military aggression in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon which has resulted in the killing of hundreds of civilians. Zeese promised to make sure voters know his campaign rhetoric is not consistent with his voting record.
Yesterday, two incumbent Congressmen lost in Georgia and Michigan. Earlier this year 12 incumbent state legislators lost in Pennsylvania. A majority of the electorate believes the country is going in the wrong direction and are pessimistic about the future. As Democratic consultant, Dane Strother told Reuters "America wants change and it's not just the war. Every incumbent in America in both parties ought to be quaking in their boots right now."
”When a former Vice Presidential candidate and an incumbent senator can be defeated it shows that voters are in a ‘throw the bums’ out mood and that long-term traditional politicians, like those from the Democrat and Republican Parties, are in danger this election year. Voters want a new direction and new leadership for the 21st Century,” said Zeese.
